Automotive Supply Chain - QMS - ISO/TS 16949 Certification

We can explain as a quality management system into four parts:-

  • Standards, which oversee the output of the organization such as the product or service and also how this relates to the customer experience.

  • Standards that ensure consistent performance and implementation.

  • Standards that look at the effectiveness and efficiency of the business.

  • Standards that relate to improvement and continual progression of the company to satisfy and meet the needs of the customer.

It is easy to presume that these standards would be present in any industry however there are very few that actually have them as a system and even fewer that require registration and the upholding of these requirements.

Tier one Automotive Supply Chain do have to comply with TS 16949 Certification regulations as standard however tier 2 and 3 do not. That being said, many customers insist on tier 2 and 3 companies being registered although a €middle of the road' compromise is for these businesses to be registered with ISO 9000 instead.

What are the benefits of TS 16949:-

On the one hand you have the internal benefits to the company.

  • This includes the prevention of product nonconformities and essentially turning the business away from detecting issues to preventing them in the first place. Furthermore it helps to improve consistency and reliability by having a set amount of standards to comply with.

  • Internal point of view, these regulations create a framework for growth and expansion and they provide a way to organize the business.

  • ISO/TS 16949 that automotive industry help to improve the Quality Management System overall customer experience from increasing satisfaction, product quality, and meeting demand.

  • They ensure continued and consistent improvement over time in an age where any slip up can be seized upon in a highly competitive market.

  • The regulations can provide a competitive advantage particularly if you are going head to head with another company who is not certified or registered with the system.

While some businesses and individuals see regulations as cumbersome and intrusive, in the case of the automotive industry ISO ts16949 Certification - QMS has had wide ranging benefits both from an internal and external perspective. Not only does it encourage growth and a consistent way in which to run and maintain businesses in the supply chain but it also helps to meet satisfaction and ensure quality across the market as well.
